Studio
We are a Zanzibar-based permaculture studio founded in 2020 with a vision to build sustainable and regenerative urban developments across the island. What began as a small endeavor by a husband-and-wife team has grown into a network of designers, builders, and trainers working on urban gardens, schools, eco-resorts, and flagship developments such as Fumba Town.
Our work blends indigenous knowledge with modern permaculture principles to create landscapes that consider every feature in nature - soil, water, biodiversity, community. We offer consulting, design, implementation, maintenance, and training, and we partner with clients for the long haul.
Franko Göhse - Director & CEO. Franko leads the company's strategy, partnerships, and operations. He oversees implementation across every site and is the studio's principal voice with developers, hospitality groups, and institutional clients.
Bernadette Kirsch - Chief Design Officer. Bernadette leads design and consulting. Her practice is rooted in deep listening to the land and in the belief that "permaculture is using mother nature as your mentor."
Our work is grounded in the three ethics of permaculture: Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share. We believe lasting change comes from collaboration, inclusivity, and respect for indigenous knowledge and local cultures. Every project we accept aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is intended as both a living landscape and an educational hub for the community around it.
We are a full-service permaculture landscape design company. Our services span site consultations, topographical and botanical surveys, drone-assisted documentation, master planning, planting design, rainwater harvesting, natural drainage, biodigesters, recycled-material construction, composting systems, beekeeping setup, and kitchen-garden training. Beyond design, we run capacity-building workshops with our clients' teams so that the systems we install can be tended without us in the long term.
While our foundation is in Zanzibar, we are developing scalable models to replicate this work across Tanzania, Africa, and ultimately in any urban context where ecological resilience is needed most.
